Would it be beneficial to use water from my home aquarium to water my window box herb garden?

Question by Babykins Baby: Would it be beneficial to use water from my home aquarium to water my window box herb garden?
My logic is that the water removed is being removed because it has ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites. Are these beneficial as opposed to tap water for my tiny herb garden?

Maybe/Maybe not.
You’re introducing different bacteria to plants so that might be harmful…

  1. it is a great reuse of water and you shouldn’t have any problems, you could dilute it with tap water if it has been a long time since you changed any of the aq water, the fish make ‘fertilizer’ that your herbs will like

  2. You’re absolutely right. In fact you can even buy fish emulsion fertilizer. When you clean the bottom of your tank use that water also I do and it works great all the algae and other “stuff” help condition and fertilize.
