    Alternative medicines are still medicines. St. John’s Wort can’t be given to AIDS patients because it reacts with some antiviral medications.

    “Chinese herbs” could be anything. What are these herbs for? What are they called? The Chinese had a lot of different herbs and some of them may not interact well with birth control pills. Many plants make chemicals that closely resemble human hormones.

    Figure out which herbs you’re taking and Google “herbname birth control pills”. I believe echinacea interferes with birth control but I do not know any others.

  2. Not necessarily any American medicine with Chinese herbs, but birth control – Yes. Not necessarily unsafe, but could actually cancel out the bc.

    Herbs are hormonal often times. BC is hormonal. So, you start mixing things with hormones and you could counter act one or the other. Best to talk to an herbalist about what you are trying to do. They should be able to recommend a helpful approach.
