How can I start my own indoor garden (grow my own produce)?

Question by Mr. M: How can I start my own indoor garden (grow my own produce)?
I’m interested in growing my own produce, but I live in an apartment in the city so I don’t have a garden to grow produce in. How can I grow a good amount of produce indoors and what are the best veggies/fruits to grow under such conditions?

As you local DIY store they might tell you want you can grow, it all depends on how much space if its a covered garden indoor or inside you kitchen space is important and light is also a factor

  1. Herbs is the only thing that you can grow indoors. Produce must be grown in a green house or outside. You cannot grow produce under lights or in window sills indoors.
You can however grow some produce in containers on a balcony if it gets direct sun for 6 or more hours. Don’t waste you time trying anything other than herbs indoors.

  2. If depends on how much light you have. If you have a balcony or a large window, you could grow a tomato in a 5 gallon bucket. You could really grow just about anything in a 5 gallon bucket. Drill a hole in the bottom for drainage and put a tray underneath to collect the water. If you are only growing a couple plants, its a lot faster to buy starter plants especially if you’re starting them now.
