Question by J: Are there any aromatherapy oils that can alleviate the pain of migraine and headaches?
I have always found aromatherapy oils very effective for dealing with non-emergency problems but cannot find any help when it comes to migraines or headaches…
Thank you :)

  1. I’m a massage therapist and use many essential oils. I also suffer from migraines, and i keep a little tissue dripped with lavender inside my pillow case. It helps me to relax, which causes me to be able to sleep better.
Here is a listing of what I keep handy. Hope it will help for you.

Think about your headaches/Migraine attacks. Do they make you feel depressed, anxious, or panicked? Do you need to sleep, but have trouble? Choose some of the oils from the chart, mix one or more with some carrier oil, and give them a try. You can wait until you need them, and mix a small amount in the palm of your hand, or you can mix the oils ahead in a bottle. For example, I tend to experience anxiety and panic during the headache phase of a Migraine attack. I’m also prone to drop or spill things, so I premix oils in a small, roll-on bottle. My Migraine and relaxation/sleep blends are:

    Migraine Blend

Fill bottle approximately 2/3 with Sweet Almond Oil
    6 drops Lavender Oil (headache/Migraine)
6 drops Clary Sage Oil (anxiety/panic)
    6 drops Chamomile Oil (sleep)
12 drops Peppermint Oil (headache/Migraine) Peppermint is also very helpful for nausea.
Cover top with finger and shake. Check the fragrance of the oil. If it is unpleasant to you, add a few drops of whichever oil you prefer to make it more pleasant.
Fill any remaining space in bottle with Sweet Almond Oil, insert the roller ball, and cap the bottle.
To use: Apply to temples and areas of pain. Massage lightly. You can also roll some onto the back of your hand

    Relaxation/Sleep Blend

Fill bottle approximately 2/3 with Sweet Almond Oil (For this one, I use a small glass bottle with an orifice reducer — a plastic insert for the opening that allows the oils to come out a drop at a time.
    6 drops Lavender Oil
    6 drops Bergamot Oil
    6 drops Chamomile Oil
Finish filling bottle with Jasmine Oil, 10% in Jojoba Oil. (Pure Jasmine is very potent and very expensive. The 10% formulation is commonly used.)
If you don’t like the fragrance of Jasmine, substitute an amount of Mandarin oil to achieve a pleasant fragrance, then fill the rest of the way with Almond Oil.
Insert orifice reducer into top of bottle, then cap.
To use: Variety of uses. Sprinkle a few drops on your pillow, massage your temples, etc.

  2. try 2 drops of each bay, sweet marjoram and peppermint.

If you want to massage your head and back of the neck add 15 ml sunflower oil.

steam inhalation can clear the head too.

Try to buy a therapeutic oils . For more info on guideline buying the right oils you can check here

  3. pl see what suits you.
If you are in cold country use all warm things.
Pl try cold water bath and observe if in hot country, if pain increases use warm.
If you have cough/cold body hot water bath will help.
Massage and exercise in front of morning sun is good thing, pl try.
Pl try simple acupressure given below for immediate relief.
If it fails you will have to go for Acupuncture.

There is hardly any medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache, Ear ache/ringing, Stomach ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.

Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes.
None of them can be treated with medicine.
Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.

    Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.

Pain killers don’t treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.

Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, tension, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING and alcohole.

Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits like dates, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.

But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves’ juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.

If it is acute pl search a painful point (with round tipped pen/jimmy) 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

For forehead/eye pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.

    It may disappear naturally too.
